Welcome toStar Wars week! To celebrate 15 yearsRache der Sith(May 19) and the 40th anniversary ofThe Empire Strikes Back(May 21) we spent nine days talking about our favorite sci-fi franchise.
7. Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi Wan MaisHe is one of the few characters to see Sheev Palpatine in two trilogies. While Palpatine may mean a lot to Obi-Wan, what does Obi-Wan mean to Palpatine?
Don't forget the whole plot of "Lost Planet".attack two clonesWo Kenobi discovers the full plot of the clone wars. In addition, even as a Padawan, Obi-Wan was able to defeat Palpatine's apprentice Darth Maul in battle.
Even so, only 171 Star Wars fans believe that Palpatine would be afraid of Obi-Wan.
In the prequels, Obi-Wan is Palpatine's greatest emotional threat. As Anakin's Jedi Master, he bears direct responsibility for raising and training him to become the Chosen One. Unfortunately, we know how that ends. Palpatine cunningly uses Obi-Wan as a tool to drive a wedge between himself and the future Darth Vader.
While Obi-Wan was an obstacle, he was never a real threat to Sheev Palpatine.
180 Star Wars fans believe Palpatine saw his greatest threat in being himselffixed Enkelin.
The biggest selling point in Rey's case against Palpatine is obvious: she was the one who hit him.The Rise of Skywalker. (At least for now.) All Jedi are inside her, so naturally that she would be just as intimidating as any Jedi that came before her, right?
Then again, Rey has Palpatine blood and shedark side of the kingit's a fundamental part of who she is. Perhaps this familial connection diminishes the Jedi dynasty that preceded it. The situation might have been very different if it weren't for his intense Force bond with Kylo Ren.
He's Palpatine! He fears no Jedi!
Fans of 231 say that the Jedi pose no threat to the Emperor. Instead, he sees them as pawns on his chessboard. This seems like an ideal choice for this quintessential Star Wars villain, but where does he leave the pathos behind Sheev the Person? Cloning and genocide aside, Palpatine is a human with emotions, right?
In the wise words of a Yoda: Fear is the path to the dark side. How could Palpatine lead the dark side without knowing that fear?
4. Lukas Skywalker
Luke Skywalker: Jedi Master, lover of bantha milk and Tosche Station's energy converter, and according to 287turning backReader, Palpatine's worst nightmare.
That makes a lot of sense in hindsight. Luke was able to turn Vader against Emperor Palpatine because of their family connection. It's a living connection to the happy family life that Anakin ended up losing foreverRache der Sith.
Palpatine never refers to Luke directlyThe Rise of SkywalkerBut the influence of the Jedi on the Emperor's plan to regain power should not be underestimated. He trained Rey, albeit briefly, sacrificing his own life to help the last remnants of the Resistance escape Kylo Ren's attack on Craitthe last jedi. Palpatine's death at Rey's hands would not have been possible without Luke's help in life and beyond.
3. Anakin Skywalker
The prequel trilogy revolved around Anakin's turn to the dark side, but was Palpatine secretly hoping that his apprentice would eventually turn against him? 348 readers seem to think so.
Makes sense. Anakin has switched sides before, but thisDarth VaderWe see in the original trilogy that he seems fully committed to his role as the Emperor's enforcer until he meets his son, something Palpatine could not foresee.
Quizás SheevsoughtAnakin to kill him, thereby transferring his spirit and allowing Vader to become the Sith incarnate. (He later tried the same trick on Rey.)
Regardless, we know how this one ended: one of the strongest emotional moments in Star Wars when Anakin turns on the Emperor.
2. Wind Wind
Mace Windu certainly scared Palpatine during their epic duelRache der Sith, and 472 Star Wars fans believe no one else has surpassed it.
Mace Windu is the first line of defense after learning Sheev's true identity and after confronting Palps with this fact, they duel and Mace is finished.fall out of a windowto the busy street below. Of course, Master Windu managed to melt Sheev's face away in the process and only lost the fight after Anakin intervened.
Why Mace Windu? He has always been the most proactive in the Jedi Council, and when he discovered Palpatine's true intentions, he did not hesitate to take action against him, even at the cost of his life. Regardless of his terrible fate, Windu was the first Jedi to face the evil that lurks in the Senate, and that's pretty scary.
He's also Samuel L. Jackson, a pretty daunting fact in and of itself.
With an impressive 622 votes, the most popular choice for Palpatine is NemesisYoda-Professor.
Only based on Yoda's epic duel with Darth Sidious at the end ofRache der Sith, we would have to agree. As leader of the Jedi Council, Yoda is also the only one with comparable experience in the Force and enormous influence in the Republic.
To someone who has never heard of Star Wars, the fact that a little green six-fingered alien was voted Palpatine's worst nightmare seems absurd, but that's the beauty of Star Wars. We don't judge him by his size, we know how powerful he can be with the Force.
Palpatine is right to be afraid.
Joker: Qui-Gon Jinn
Despite not having an option for him on the list, Qui-Gon Jinn received an impressive 34 votes in a write-in campaign.
There's a strong case for Liam Neeson's renegade Jedi, even if his time in canon has been curtailed by Darth Maul. As a student ofliving power, he would have advanced knowledge of midichlorians and how the Sith approach the workings of the Force. And it was Qui-Gon who championed Anakin's training, even when he couldn't pull it off.
The biggest proof that Palpatine was afraid of Qui-Gon? He had stopped Darth Maul from eliminating the threat before it could develop. We can only speculate what the galaxy would look like if it survived.
